In many ways, as we get older, we often find we rely on a little extra support. Whether it’s lugging the shopping back to the car, reaching that top shelf or getting about more easily. The same goes for your fitness routine. Whether you’re just getting started, or are suffering a bout of boredom and need a fresh new way to stay active, Personal Training is your port in a storm.
GET TO GRIPS WITH KIT
To maintain an active and well-rounded fitness routine, it’s crucial to mix up your workouts. Sticking to the same bit of kit every time isn’t only boring, but isn’t going to work every muscle group, leaving you strong in some places but weak as a kitten in others.
Don’t be daunted by the range of kit that awaits you on the gym floor. It all looks very new-fangled and complicated, but all it takes is a little guidance. Our Personal Trainers will demonstrate the bits of kit you should be using based on your fitness goals, and how to use them safely.
FUNCTIONAL FITNESS
Exercise in later life is essential to ensure we can tackle everyday activities such as lifting, carrying, bending and stretching. As our joints become stiffer and muscles less strong, carrying out simple movements like these can quickly become more challenging. That’s where a focus on functional fitness can work wonders.
Your Personal Trainer will work with you to perfect a series of exercises using a range of kit, including kettlebells, balls, ropes and dumbbells, all designed to strengthen the key muscles you need to make everyday movements much easier. A great routine to add to your fitness plan if you spend time chasing around after the grandkids!
TOP TECHNIQUE
Running is running, right? Wrong. It’s easy to fall into habits throughout your fitness routine, though without expert guidance, how are you to know your technique isn’t top notch? A Personal Trainer will assess how you are using the equipment and performing your exercises, to ensure that you’re using the right form.
This is crucial, to avoid injury, but also to keep your posture in check (because old age doesn’t half bring on the back pain!)
If you suffer from stiff joints, or specific aches and pains, your Personal Trainer will be able to adapt your routine to take the strain off problem areas, ensuring you don’t do further damage.
GOOD EATS
As we age, metabolism slows down and it can become much tougher to maintain a healthy weight and keep those extra pounds from creeping on. We won’t teach you how to suck eggs, or what a sensible portion looks like… you know that. Though we can fill you up with plenty of healthy food swaps, clever meal prepping tips or introduce you to foods famed for helping with ailments that impact us in our older years.
CHECK IN!
Slogging away three times a week in the gym for an hour is great, though if you’re not seeing the results you were hoping for, it’s a fast road to disappointment.
Regular check-ins to review your body stats, fitness levels, weight or muscle mass are a great way to check that all the hard graft is heading in the right direction… and keep you motivated to keep going.
