What is Ladies Boxercise?

Women’s Boxercise is a fun, high-intensity workout that has been inspired by how real world boxers train. You’ll duck, punch and weave your way to getting fitter.

Important: boxercise is completely non-contact and non-competitive, there’s no sparring or actual fighting involved!

What you can expect from a typical ladies boxercise class is:

  • Boxing drills. Boxing drills or ‘shadow boxing’; is where you’ll take part in practising certain moves from boxing, such as jabs, a cross, uppercuts, hooks, and so on. These boxing drills also work on footwork to keep you moving!

  • Strength training. Boxercise classes include exercises aimed at improving your functional strength, such as squats, push-ups, lunges, and so on.

  • Pad work. The boxing drills and shadow boxing will prepare you to take on the pads. Working with an instructor or against a punching bag, you’ll work on your coordination and timing as you practise your punching and footwork together.

  • Stamina exercises. What good would a boxer be without phenomenal stamina? Boxercise also incorporates exercises such as running, sprinting, shuttle runs, jumping jacks, and other cardio focused exercises.

Our classes are a spectacular way to scorch those calories and learn something new!

Benefits of Women’s Boxercise

The benefits of women’s boxercise are numerous, making the classes something that everyone with an interest in fitness should consider.

If you are just getting back into fitness, or getting into fitness for the first time, the class is challenging but rewarding. For those who have been into fitness for a while or are seasoned gym goers, taking a Boxercise class is a great way to change up your normal routine. Our women’s boxercise classes can be taken in addition to your current workout regime.

Some key benefits of ladies boxercise classes:

  • Improved cardiovascular health. Boxercise classes do have strength training, but they are primarily a high-octane cardio focused class with the various drills and pad work. Due to this, boxercise classes are a brilliant way to improve stamina, get your circulation going, and as a direct result of this, improve your overall bodily cardiovascular health.

  • Improved coordination. Using your hands and feet at the same time with the different striking techniques and dodging techniques is no easy feat. It takes dedication and a lot of practice to get good at it. Getting good at boxercise pad work and boxing drills will naturally improve your bodily coordination as well as hand-eye coordination.

  • Increased agility. Learning how boxers move is one of the more challenging aspects of boxercise, but a challenge that anyone can tackle. Learning how your body moves as well as where and when to move it will help you replicate what a boxer would do in the ring - improving your bodily agility.

  • Increased strength (and endurance). The sections of a typical boxercise class that aren’t spent on agility or cardio are spent on increasing your muscular strength and endurance. This is accomplished through functional strength exercises.

  • Improve your core. The core is essential to all fitness and everyday life. In boxing, the core is fundamental to the ability of the boxer to withstand blows and retaliate in kind. In boxercise, the exercises we do will also help you tighten up your core and improve its resilience.

In addition to all these amazing benefits, a boxercise class is a fun and engaging way to meet and exceed your fitness goals.

FAQs About Ladies Boxercise Classes

Who Is Behind Boxercise?

Boxercise started back in 1992 when a boxing coach called Andy Wake began running the first boxercise classes in the UK. It was hugely successful, with over a million people signing up to the original boxing classes during the 90s. Since then, boxercise has become a worldwide workout class staple, with most gyms offering some kind of variation of a boxercise class.

Is Boxercise good for losing weight?

Yes. Boxercise is a fantastic way to lose weight as the fitness class will keep your metabolism high and is brilliant at keeping the whole body working out throughout the duration of the class.

What is the difference between boxing and boxercise?

The primary difference is that boxercise is inspired by the workouts boxers use, while boxing is a competitive sport. At boxing classes, you’ll likely spar other people. Sparring others isn’t something we do at boxercise.

How often do you have to do boxercise?

The answer will depend on how active you are throughout a normal week. However, assuming you don’t do any other exercise class, to continually progress your fitness and to avoid a fitness plateau, you should go to boxercise 2-3 times a week.

Do you need gloves for women’s boxercise?

No. To do a boxercise fitness class you won’t need to buy and bring gloves. You can do a boxercise workout without gloves.
