As another year of fitness trends and triumphs comes to a close, ACSM have released their fitness predictions for the year ahead. How delighted we are to discover that many of the hot topics for the New Year are already available within our clubs.

WEARABLE TECHNOLOGY

Wearable tech seemed to have taken off during the pandemic when our only choice of exercise was a masked-up run in the great outdoors or a spot of YouTube yoga in the living room. We teched-up to ensure we were maximising our limited forms of fitness. 

However, with increased interest in fitness community connections, social support networks and data driven fitness plans, these handy little devices are now an integral part to most fitness plans. When you think of wearable tech, your mind may automatically go to smartwatches, but there are specifically built fitness trackers and heart rate monitors you can wear too! They’re by far and beyond the easiest way for you to track your workout, health and wellbeing.

EXERCISE FOR WEIGHT LOSS

The quest to shed the pounds has been driven this year by celebrity-endorsed quick-fix hunger suppressants and diet pills. Though there’s only one way to lose the weight, for good.

The Technogym Checkup comes to Village Health & Wellness Clubs in early 2025. This slick bit of kit assesses your body composition, balance, mobility, strength, cardiovascular health and cognitive abilities. The data then forms a personalised training plan based on a calculated wellness age. As a member, you can get your assessment absolutely free, just visit the Technogym Check Up machine in-club, follow the instructions on screen and you’re all set for your personalised training plan.


HIGH INTENSITY INTERVAL TRAINING (HIIT)

In a world where we continue to live life at 100mph, busy days can easily escape us and we find no time to cram in our fitness routines. That’s where HIIT comes in - a workout designed to deliver maximum results in minimal time. A combination of short, intense bursts, followed by very brief stints of rest, HIIT training pushes your limits, burns calories and builds strength like no other workout. 

At Village, we’re no strangers to needing to get our heads together to think up some killer classes in which you can nail when short of time, we totally get it, you’re busy! With BURN HIIT, you’re in and out in under 30 minutes and the workout is designed to create a thing known as the ‘after-burner effect’. STRENGTH TRAINING

In recent years, strength training has surged in popularity. Going from a rather niche workout to being one of the most mainstream ways to get your fitness kicks in 2025. Strength training may have one day been reserved for bodybuilders and elite athletes, however it’s now an activity that those of any age, any fitness level and any gender is currently working into their standard fitness routine. Proven to boost metabolism as well as being a real endorphin enhancer, it’s clear that strength training goes way beyond the aesthetics. 

Here at Village, we’re constantly keeping up with trends, and we’d love to think we’re rather good at setting them too! That being said, we know our members and know the rise in popularity strength training is having with you. FUNCTIONAL FITNESS

Over the last few years, functional fitness has risen to the top of the fitness world. Unlike traditional workouts that focus on specific muscle groups, functional fitness leans more on everyday activities such as lifting, pushing, pulling. It’s all about building strength, flexibility, endurance, things that come in handy in day-to-day life. 

Village have teamed up with the absolute giants of the functional fitness world, HYROX. Staging events all around the world, the HYROX concept is fairly simple. It’s a race that tests your best but we’re strong believers of completion over competition. Just finishing this beast of a challenge is enough to shout about! Anyway, we digress, HYROX is formed by 8 Functional Fitness exercises, split by 8 x runs. Fastest time wins!
