When it comes to a high performance workout, the key is to get out of that comfort zone.
Your comfort zone is something that restricts. It plays no other part than to keep your fears or feelings in a bubble, protected. Stepping out of this zone, although uncomfortable at first, will drastically improve your workout, and your results.
SWITCH IT UP
When it comes to your fitness, it helps to beat boredom, explore your horizons and find new niche interests to hone in on. Not only will you gain confidence by finding you can accomplish more than you imagined, you will also reap the physical rewards of new activities, as well as the mental rewards of keeping your brain engaged in new and exciting things.
By trying out a new workout routine, class or even a single exercise to add in to your current list, you could be working new parts of your body that don't normally get focus, and this can not only help you achieve your goals quicker, but also produce better results in the end.
If you’re usually a cardio crusader, try a HIIT class. You’ll get that cardio boost, with a full on strength workout too. Get the heart rate pumping and keep your body guessing, to make it work harder.
If you’re a holistic fan, incorporate some more high energy classes into your routine, such as BodyJam, Ravin Fit or Sh’Bam… get your dance on to add that extra level of intensity to your workout.
TWO’S COMPANY
Building your social circle may open your eyes to new types of training or motivate you to workout on the days where you don't feel up to it. By having a larger circle in your workout environment, you can be pushed even further to either try their workout tips, routines or even nutritional advice, or simply just have someone to add that extra motivation to a tough workout.
Need to widen your social circle? Get involved in our regular member events and make the most out of your membership. From nutrition clinics to freeweights for beginners, Spin N’ Gin or a Pilates and Lattes session, you’ll get your dose of fitness alongside some much needed social interaction. Win!
GO HARDER
If you think you have perfected your routine - move more. Increase your weights, reps or work out for longer over time to gradually encourage the body to handle more and do more. Constantly create yourself new goals, and push past them to create new limits. You are in charge of what your body can handle, not the other way around.
TRACK IT
Not sure where to go next? Record the length of your sessions, weights lifted, reps achieved or miles run - then focus on improving them on your next visit. Keep challenging your previous personal best and push the body out of what’s comfortable and into high performance mode!
It’s important to track your workouts to identify strengths and weaknesses, to help you optimise your routine and fine tune your approach, allowing you to turn weaknesses into goals. It also allows you to keep yourself accountable, spot any patterns or habits that may need improvement, even outside of the gym.
