Functional Fitness Exercises
Functional fitness training is all about exercises that mimic our movements in everyday life. Think, lifting, twisting, pushing, reaching, etc, the many ways our body contorts itself in order to go about our day.
Functional training has become a popular choice of workout thanks to the accessibility and familiarity of movement. Whereas, some routines might have you learning a whole new set which can be difficult to remember and perfect, the form of functional fitness is entirely centralised around what comes naturally.
Not all members hit the gym with the specific goal to tone up or slim down. Many of our older members, for example, have to consider alternative aims like improving stability and flexibility to help them keep up with the grandchildren. Many of us that spend all day at a desk curled up like a prawn want to improve our posture (because we're not all fortunate enough to have a fancy, ergonomic office chair!)
Throughout our daily grind, our bodies go through six degrees of freedom. This allows us to push/pull, jump/squat, step, twist, and bend.
Functional fitness training is a great way to improve and stabilise these movements, making them easier over time as our muscles become stronger. It works by using your body the way it was designed to be used... using several joints and muscle groups at the same time, as opposed to targeting specific muscles in a traditional strength training workout.
Done correctly, functional fitness training can improve strength, coordination, balance, agility, accuracy, flexibility, endurance and stamina. You'll get to grips with a variety of functional training equipment, such as kettle bells, bosu balls, power bags, battle ropes, sleds and slam balls.
One of the best things about functional fitness training it is suitable for anyone. No matter your age, fitness levels or strength, our team can help plan a functional training programme that works for you and your goals. Push yourself further by upping the intensity or duration. Or challenge yourself by adding extra resistance.
Everyday life just got so much easier. Functional fitness is the way forward.
